Seniors and Technology – Closing the Digital Gap with STEM

LTF promotes the technical well-being of Seniors. We will offer discounted computer training programs that helps Seniors learn more about technology. Seniors may be faced with technical challenges when it comes to learning and operating their technical devices. We teach Seniors how to use the internet, their smart phones and other basic computer skills.

• According to Entrepreneur India, at entrepreneur.com, “it is important to note that those that will be 65+ in 2040 are currently in their late 30s early 40s and those who will be 65+ in 2060 are 20-25 now, both of these demographics utilize computers and current tech readily.”

• According to Entrepreneur India, at entrepreneur.com, “it is reasonable to conclude that the present digital divide will be less apparent in the future because younger generations have grown up with computers, it will be second nature when they are older. If we can consider this, it is fair to say that the digital divide will gradually close of its own accord. We will probably see a rapid close in the digital divide within the next 5-10 years as the aging population will comprise of a lot more people who use computers on a daily basis now.”

• There is only 59% of adults 65+ using the Internet. That’s a drop off from the nearly 86% of all adults going online, but it is promising news that the gap between senior citizens and technology is closing.

• By 2018, 92 percent of traditional STEM jobs will be for those with at least some post-secondary education and training. So, seniors need to close digital gap with technology.

• Sites like Facebook allow seniors to stay connected with the milestones happening with family and friends

• In 2009, of the 56 million people age 25 and over with a bachelor’s degree, nearly 20 million of them held a degree in a science or engineering field.
